Hello, my name is Scott,

I am a clinical social worker in Michigan. I view emotions not as inherently good or bad but as protective strategies that have evolved in response to past situations. My therapeutic approach is collaborative, aiming to help individuals navigate their distress with greater ease and understanding. I integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and Systemic Family Therapy into my practice. By combining these approaches, I work with clients to explore and address the underlying dynamics of their emotional experiences and relationships, fostering healing and personal growth.

I have a deep sense of commitment to supporting people who are experiencing distress surrounding psychosis; such as hearing voices, having visions or other sensory experiences, strong beliefs, or what some describe as a spiritual emergency. I am equally dedicated to supporting the loved ones of those affected.

Hi, my name is Sydney,

As a student therapist at Michigan State University, I am completing my field placement with a focus on supporting individuals and couples. I’m especially interested in relationship counseling, helping people improve communication, navigate conflict, and deepen intimacy. I also have an interest in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, or OCD.

I use practices from Compassion-Focused Therapy and consider family relationships to guide my work. My background includes child custody investigations and adolescent advocacy, which has strengthened my understanding of family dynamics and resilience.

Under the guidance of professional supervision, I provide relationship counseling and individual therapy in a supportive, inclusive space where clients feel understood, validated, and empowered.

Areas of Practice

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy focuses on identifying and accepting all the different ‘parts’ of oneself. In many cases, a reluctance to accept all parts of oneself, even the destructive parts, can be an obstacle to changing maladaptive thoughts and behaviors. Through promoting self-acceptance, IFS encourages mindfulness, change, and psychological health.

  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) aims to reduce shame and self-criticism in participants through an emphasis on compassion, both for the self and others. By focusing on compassion, participants can express self-criticism and cope with daily life stresses by engaging their ‘soothing system,’ encouraging feelings of safety, comfort, and contentment.

  • Systemic Family Therapy is a form of therapy that focuses on the impact of a familial relationship on each member of the family system. Individuals are thought to be inextricably linked within their relational networks, therefore the communication patterns and conflicts within the familial unit need to be understood in order to understand the individual problems faced by family members. This form of therapy can create stronger and more cohesive connections within the relational network, promoting empathy, healthier communication skills, and more supportive relationships.

  • I specialize in family of origin issues, relational conflict, anxiety, depression, distress associated with Psychosis, and life transitions.
